On the national register of historic places, Goodwinslow is situated on the remaining 27 acres of a once sprawling plantation. Also known as Chapman House, it was designed and built around 1875 by the original owner, William Washington Goodwin, after he served in the Confederate cavalry under General Forrest. Goodwin made three trips to Europe following the war, each time returning with new design ideas for his growing estate. The earliest section of the home resembles a Germanic castle and the outline for Goodwin’s English garden still remains. Adorned in Wisteria vines, the Italian Villa façade offers visitors an impressive arrival. Housing many family relics of historic significance, the interior is tastefully appointed in period pieces. Today the great-grandson of Goodwin, former Memphis police director Buddy Chapman and his wife Pam, call Goodwinslow home.
A social reception with refreshments will be sponsored by Old City Millwork.
